Aging and Vascular Physiology Laboratory

The risk for cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease increases exponentially as we get older. Still, the mechanisms underlying the worsening of vascular health in old age or how this impaired vascular health affects age-related diseases is unknown. The Aging and Vascular Physiology Laboratory is conducting projects that will help us understand how arteries and capillaries change with advancing age and how these changes lead to increased disease risk. We are also exploring interventions to prevent or slow the onset of vascular impairment in older age.
